For First-Time Participants

  1. Players of all levels are welcome, regardless of chess strength. We will try to pair you with opponents of a similar level.

  2. No advance registration is required. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us (responses may be delayed).

  3. We can explain the rules of chess, but we kindly ask that you review the basic rules online beforehand. (Chess rules: external site)

    It is sufficient to know the piece names and movements, as well as the terms checkmate, stalemate, and castling.

  4. Elementary school children or younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please also make sure your child is able to play quietly during games.

About the Meetings

  1. The participation fee is ¥500 / ¥800 (depending on meeting hours).

  2. Games are non-rated. (Our club is not affiliated with the Japan Chess Federation, so official rated games are not available.)

  3. The time control is 20 minutes + 20 seconds increment. If you prefer a shorter time control, please ask your opponent for agreement.

  4. Please remain quiet during games. When others are playing, keep conversations and post-game analysis voices low.

  5. We follow the touch-move rule (if you touch a piece, you must move it).

  6. Please treat your opponents and other participants with respect.

    If any abusive language, harassment, or disruptive behavior occurs, you may be asked to leave.

  7. In addition, please follow the rules of the venue.

Handling of Personal Information

  1. Participants will be asked to write their name (nicknames are fine).

  2. If you have a Chess.com or other rating, sharing it helps us with pairing.

  3. Our club does not collect or store personal information such as contact details or home addresses.

  4. We do not post photos of participants on social media or our website.
